State Papers Online: the Government of Britain, 1509-1714 offers original historical materials from the period of 16th and 17th Century Britain, covering the reign of the Tudors and the Stuarts. New eBook Collections

The Library has acquired two significant eBook collections for use by CSU staff and students: ebrary and CAB eBooks.

ebrary

ebrary is an eBook collection that includes more than 54,000 multidisciplinary titles, covering most of CSU’s teaching and research areas. The majority of titles are from 2004 and later. The collection provides unlimited simultaneous access. Research capabilities include: highlighting and annotating; automatic citations; copying and printing; and the creation of personal bookshelves.

*Note: You don’t need to download any special software to access ebrary items. The prominent blue “ebrary Reader” button which appears when you open an eBook, can be ignored. More information on accessing ebrary eBooks can be found in the ebrary Help page.

CAB eBooks

CAB eBooks is a collection of more than 330 eBooks published by CAB International (CABI) since 2005 covering: agriculture; animal & veterinary sciences; environmental sciences; human health, food, & nutrition; leisure & tourism; and plant sciences. The collection can be browsed under these subject categories, or browsed or searched as a whole.
Books are retrievable as chapters, displayed as PDF files.

eBooks in both collections can be found via 'Search@CSU Library', and from the eBooks Collections page.

Need help using ebrary or CAB eBooks? You can contact the Library by phone, chat, email or in person to get assistance accessing these exciting new resources.

Academic staff or postgraduate students who would like to know more about these collections, should contact one of the faculty liaison librarians.

Tuesday night is Census night!

I have to admit that I love Census night, so I'm looking forward to filling in my form (I've chosen eCensus, the online option) tomorrow night - Tuesday 9th August.
So, what is the Census and why do we need to fill in this form? The Census counts Australia's current population, and the data collected can help in planning for Australia's future, for example, helping to determine where new schools and hospitals will be built.
Have a look at spotlight, an interactive video, to find out what the Census can tell you about Australia and yourself. It creates a cute little personal infographic that you can share via Facebook or Twitter.

Check out the Australian Bureau of Statistics site. Here you will find all the data from previous Censuses - you can use this data, which includes information on topics such as education and employment in Australia, for research, it might even be useful for you next assignment!
When completing your Census form you will also have the opportunity to make sure that your story is preserved in our national history. For more information on how to do this read Be part of our history

It only happens once every 5 years - so don't miss out, remember to fill in your form!

Bathurst Learning Commons Open for business

August is upon us, so let's look back on the year so far, and see how many of those 'university experiences' you've had so far...

Stayed up ALL night to finish an assessment?

Regretted something that you've done the night before at the Uni Bar?

Refused to go to the Library because you're sick of climbing the fire stairs?

OK, how bout something that you haven't done...? Like maybe being one of the first people into the newly renovated Learning Commons!

That's right, Wednesday 3rd of August marks the date when the new 24 hour zone of the Learning Commons will be opened up. The hoarding has been brought down, the builders shipped out, it's time for you to come back in.

So what's the big deal? Well for a start there are more computers, more group study spaces, and more room in general. There is also a kitchenette for all your late night Masterchef inspired antics.

Student Central and the Cashier are still located on the Ground Floor, while there are 4 lecture rooms and computer labs on Level 1. All the Library's books, journals, dvds and more are located on Level 3 - and this is also where you'll find all our friendly staff. You can rest assured too, as the whole 24 hour space is security monitored.

So what's next? Well there are some finishing touches to be applied, and some more changes to come, including a Cafe on the Ground Floor - but other than that, it's all yours. So come check it out.

Possible Fines - Library System

A major hardware problem with the library system on Friday morning 29th after 10.45am, has meant that a number of items that have been requested, renewed, or returned, may not have been recorded.

This may result in fines being generated for items that have been returned, and requests for photocopies or holds not being processed.

Could you please check your Library record using My Library Record through Search@csu, and notify the library if you have concerns on 1800 808 369, or contact the staff on the front desk at your library.
