CAB eBooks: current service interruption

The Library's subscription to CAB eBooks is currently experiencing technical problems which will affect your ability to access this collection of eBooks - it is hoped that this problem will be fixed soon, however the servers are located in the Northern Hemisphere, so they may be unavailable until sometime tomorrow.

What are CAB eBooks?
CAB eBooks is a growing collection of more than 330 eBooks published by CAB International (CABI) since 2005 covering: agriculture; animal & veterinary sciences; environmental sciences; human health, food, & nutrition; leisure & tourism; and plant sciences. The collection can be browsed under these subject categories, or browsed or searched as a whole. Books are retrievable as chapters, displayed as PDF files.

CAB eBooks are available from the Library's eBook Collection page.

Search@CSU Library feedback: display and duplication of search results

Changes to display of books, journals and ebooks

Books, journals and ebooks are now displayed in Search@CSU Library in a way that helps users to distinguish between different versions and editions of a particular item.

How to use this feature:

1. When different versions/editions of a particular item are available, a message will appear on the right-hand side of the screen. Click on the message, as shown below:

2. A screen similar to the one below will appear:

This example shows that the library has two different editions of the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The library also holds an audio version, as well as the DVD.

Display of journal article duplicates
Users of Search@CSU Library have noticed significant changes to the way in which their search results are displayed. Some users have reported that a single journal article may display multiple times in their search results in Search@CSU Library.

Why does this occur? Information about the library’s database holdings is gathered together in an index called Primo Central. Primo Central feeds this information into Search@CSU Library. A journal article may be housed in more than one database, however, and so can appear more than once in the search results. This issue is being addressed in a service pack designed to ‘de-duplicate’ journal article search results. Library staff are currently testing the service pack with the aim of implementation in July.

Single sign-on to access Library resources and services

From Wednesday July 13 there will be a change to the way that clients request library material through the Library catalogue or within Search@CSU Library.

Staff and students will be required to login using their CSU user name and password (i.e. your My.CSU login details) rather than the CS+ID number and pin [date and month of birth] as is currently required to request books, copies or access My Library Record.

This login is required when logging in to the catalogue or Search@CSU Library to request books, copies of articles or when logging into My Library Record.

The introduction of a single sign-on based on the CSU username and password will make access to Library services simpler for users, and is consistent with the introduction of Search@CSU Library – which provides a single search interface for most Library resources.

Search@CSU Library, the catalogue, and access to electronic resources may be briefly unavailable on Wednesday 13 July between 6.00-7.00pm while these changes are implemented. If problems are encountered during the implementation phase on Wednesday evening, the current login service will still be available.

Changes to Accessing Dubbo Collection

We're very pleased to announce that a full time Library Officer for the Dubbo Campus, Martin Peffer, is now available to assist students with all queries, in addition to the chat and ask a question services provided remotely. Martin is available Monday to Friday from 9am - 5pm and can be found by visiting the main service counter.

Materials held at the Dubbo campus library are now available for borrowing by students and staff based on other CSU campuses. This means you can request items from Dubbo which were previously only available to students and staff based on Dubbo campus. The 'home delivery' option for requests will no longer be available to Dubbo internal students, instead they will now be able to select Dubbo as the 'pickup location.' Holds will be available for 5 working days after notification is sent.

If you have any comments or questions, please don't hesitate to contact us or visit Martin on campus.

Changes to Informaworld and Wiley InterScience

Two of CSU Library's important eResources have recently undergone changes:
1. Informaworld has changed its name to Taylor & Francis Online and has a new interface. Taylor & Francis Online is a one-stop site hosting the full text of more than 1300 eJournals published by Taylor & Francis and other publishers, and includes material on most subjects.
