Australia's Right to Know

A NEW report by Irene Moss AO has found that Australia ranks behind New Zealand, Britain and Canada when it comes to freedom of the press, and the information citizens can get from government. The former NSW ombudsman, says there are grounds for concern about the state of free speech in Australia.
A coalition of media organisations known as "Right to Know" -- led by News Limited and including Fairfax Media, FreeTV Australia, commercial radio, ABC, SBS, Sky News, ASTRA, West Australian Newspapers, the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance, AAP and APN News and Media -- funded an independent audit into media freedom.
The report finds journalists are struggling to gain access to court documents for no apparent reasons. There are claims that Australian democracy is not as free, is not as open nor as transparent as it should be. Click here for the full report.
