Interruption to Library Learning Commons Due To Refurbishment (Bathurst)

The delivery phase of the Learning Commons Stage 1 project at Bathurst is just about to commence. The Learning Commons offers a vibrant and enhanced learning environment for all CSU students and is in response to the changing needs of students and services that CSU needs to provide. The front foyer at Bathurst library will soon be refurbished with a new 24 hour access facility, new furniture, signage, vending machines, toilets and a “future proposed” Cafe at the front of the library to create a vibrant space designed to promote both group and individual learning activities. The area will also replace the current 24 hour computer laboratories that are in Building S1.

Students will be able to choose to use the provided workstations, laptops or their own laptops, connecting to the Internet and CSU online resources via the wireless facility. There are number of preliminary site services and temporary works that will commence the week before Easter and proceed after Easter with this project. This period of time was selected to minimise the impact that these works will have on the Library and services, as well as the functioning of the whole of the Bathurst campus.

1. Site construction fencing and boarding are being erected in the front of the Library
2. The existing library computer teaching room is being relocated to Room 404 in the Library. The assisted technology room is also temporarily being relocated
3. There will be some minor disruptions in the library while demolition and construction works commence to allow disabled access to the rear of the Library and secondary access to the Library to protect existing fire corridors
4. The major work will not commence until temporary access to the library is constructed and security is properly installed.

Drawings, as designed by John Blackwood Architects for the Building C3-Learning commons project will be posted to DFM’s web site shortly for all of CSU to access.
